At Fiskerton Church of England Primary School we pride ourselves on promoting a wide range of activities through the taught curriculum, extra-curricular activities and visits which promote an active lifestyle. We encourage our children to stay active and healthy in line with the governments initiative to tackle child obesity
Our sports vision is to provide an enriched curriculum that develops, motivates and enthuses every individual that will develop each child’s physical literacy and skills. We aim to give opportunities for all pupils to develop their leadership, coaching and officiating skills. The children have the opportunity to explore activities including: netball, tag-rugby, football, tennis, cricket, athletics, rounder’s, cross-country, hockey and swimming. Our children also have opportunities to engage in enrichment subjects including; balance ability, archery, mini fencing, boxercise, yoga and forest schools. Our ambition is to further develop opportunities to allow children to access high-quality physical education both within and outside of curriculum time.
We are delighted to have received the Silver Sports mark award to recognise our achievements in promoting physical activity in 2019. We are working hard to continue to promote the great sporting experiences at our school this year, including enriched opportunities in school and outside of school and by encouraging personal challenge.
During this academic year all children will have the chance to compete in sporting events, whether that be in school or as part of a tournament in another venue.
Physical Education (PE) is a statutory requirement of the National Curriculum; the aims of the revised National Curriculum with regard to PE are to ensure that all pupils:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives.
How we spend our Sport Premium
This year we have focused spending our Sports premium on the following areas: training up staff to deliver outstanding PE sessions and active playtimes and lunchtime, buying new equipment for our outside area, enrichment activities and participation in competitions. In addition to the offer we also use the Sport Premium to fund Premier Sports to run a lunchtime school sport club for the KS2 children.
The money is used to cover costs for a Teaching Assistant to be the lead adult when we enter competitions run by the sport partnership and cover the cost of transport.
We audit our resources and make sure that we have the correct equipment to enable high quality PE lessons to take place.
