Intent

The intent of our PSHE/RSE curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the outcomes for every child so that they can achieve their full potential and recognise their value. At Fiskerton C of E Primary School, it is our intent that all children will develop a ‘lifelong love of learning’ with the confidence and ability to develop their skills and understanding when having new experiences, meeting new challenges and finding themselves in unfamiliar situations. We offer a nurturing learning environment in which each child is encouraged to flourish and achieve their full potential and where their achievements and successes are celebrated and rewarded.  As a school, we believe that children are all individuals and therefore, we aim to encourage mutual respect and responsibility and foster self-esteem in a happy and caring atmosphere. The teaching and learning of PSHE/RSE alongside and within our ‘flourishing curriculum’ supports this. It develops the qualities and attributes children need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society and the global community.

Implementation

We follow a two year spiralling curriculum plan that is rooted in a question based model from the PSHE Association. It ensures progression by building on the prior learning in each school year, revisiting key concepts and introducing new ideas. Our curriculum is progressive and as the children move through school they are taught age appropriate skills and are supported in dealing with challenging and new situations and feelings.

As part of daily school life and through discreet lessons children are taught:

*the skills to help them build healthy relationships

*how to take care of their own health and wellbeing

*what it means to be a member of the wider world

Impact

The intended impact of our work in PSHE/RSE and within school is to provide children with:

- accurate and relevant knowledge

- opportunities to create personal understanding

- opportunities to explore and challenge a range of values, attitudes, beliefs, rights and responsibilities

- a range of skills and strategies to live a healthy, safe, fulfilling, responsible and balanced life

We deal with the diverse beliefs, values and attitudes that individuals and societies hold. It helps pupils to develop themselves, their understanding of the world, and their ability to communicate their feelings. Children also acquire an understanding and experiences of the values that are necessary if they are to make sense of their experiences, value themselves, respect others, appreciate differences and feel confident and informed as British citizens and members of the wider world.

Through our PSHE education, we believe we can enhance children’s education and help them to become caring, respectful and confident individuals. By the end of their time at our school the children will have developed skills in co-operation, communication, risk taking, motivation, leadership and problem solving to support them through their next phase of learning.
